Dear DragonSage,

This is concerning Attacks of Oppurtunity, I think someone only gets an Attack of Oppurntunity when they move through a threatened square or move out of one. My DM thinks someone gets an Attack of Oppurtunity when they go into a threatened square. Who is right?

Scorp20000@aol.com

Ok, Attack of Oppurtunity are gained in a number of ways. A spellcaster casting a spell, a ranged attack in melee combat (unless they have the proper feat), even drinking a potion gives an Attack of Oppurtunity. In your case you are right, you get an Attack of Oppurtunity when moving through a threatenedsquare or when you exit a threatened square. There is a way however to escape the Attack of Oppurtunity which is to take a 5 ft. step. It takes you out of your enemies range of attack (unless with a polearm of some sort and your enemy can move in on your square his next action). If you have any more problems on Attack of Oppurtunity refer in the PHB 3.5 pg. 141 for a list of Attacks of Oppurtunity
